The HCP is the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan and this is an article about our floods here in San Marcos and how they affected our river and endangered species, river bottom, etc. There is even a link at the end of the article to interviews with local scientists who are in charge of the HCP projects happening in our river like sediment removal, planting wild rice and native plants, monitoring populations of species, and removing non-native fish and other wildlife, and plants.
FEMA Maps Online
It helps to have an address to find the spot on the map. Some areas of town are NOT updated yet with the new information on the maps. But some spots like near the Woods Apts. have seen a rise of 3.3 ft of the 100 year flood plain in the new draft maps. FEMA officials said they were rushing to get whatever info they had, out to the public so people would have some guidance on how high to elevate homes as they rebuilt. It will be a year or so before some of this information is known, and we will be watching for any news.
