Nearly two decades ago, the Texas Nature Conservancy was instrumental in helping SMRF establish the Wildlife Habitat Park between Cheatam Street and IH 35. Since then they have consistently highlighted the importance of the San Marcos River and the Blanco and determined, in their long range plans, which areas along the fault zone should be considered for preservation and green space. TNC was therefore back again in San Marcos to assist with the parkland purchase concluded this year for the Spring Lake preserve. Accepting the award was Gary Aemon who continues to volunteer with the Texas Nature Conservancy since his retirement.
