The River Writer’s Award goes to John Hohn and his book The Millennium Tuber. He captured such detail about the river at a certain point in time, a time that has already become a part of the river’s history when he tubed once a week for an entire year. Books become a permanent part of the history of a community, and we know that the stories in his book capture the river as we knew it in 2000. His column in the newspaper that was the first incarnation of the book was also very important because so many people had the opportunity to read it and learn about the river. John has also helped serve the river by helping with all the river clean ups for years and years, grilling hotdogs for the Plunge on New Year’s Day, designing a SMRF t-shirt featuring all our endangered species and for being a vocal and steady advocate for the river.
