Concerns about future water needs and climate changes in Central Texas are addressed in Chapter 23 (Food, Energy, & Water section), where the Edwards Aquifer is featured as a case study. The report discusses the vulnerability of the aquifer, the growing demands, and the endangered species and states, “Multiple, integrated solutions will be needed to address the impacts on the Edwards Aquifer. These will necessarily involve ways to increase supply through technological approaches, such as desalination of brackish groundwater and aquifer storage and recovery; ways to decrease demand, such as conservation and regulation; and ways to reduce the impact of urbanization through sustainable design.”
