SMRF, in conjunction with the Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center and the Edwards Aquifer Authority, initially provided computers, pumps and electricity for aquifer monitoring 90 feet under San Marcos in Ezell’s Cave.
The cave contains a delicate ecosystem of nearly 100 rare and endangered subterranean species and with direct access to the aquifer is a valuable scientific resource.
SMRF volunteers also help maintain the area and clear brush around the cave itself.
