Lone Star Prize Application:
The San Marcos City Council passed a resolution last week supporting SMRF’s application to The Lone Star Prize which is funded by the Lyda Hill Foundation. SMRF’s application will include land acquisition along the recharge zone in order to protect the Edwards Aquifer, which not only provides drinking water to over 2 million people in Central Texas, but feeds Spring Lake which keeps our beautiful river and its endangered species alive and well. These properties tie into a greenbelt loop around the city which SMRF, the City, and the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance (SMGA) have been working on for over 20 years. The city supports SMRF and SMGA connecting existing trails together to hopefully complete the trail loop around the west side of San Marcos. In the attachments to the agenda item for the council meeting, a map was included to show the council members a rough draft of potential trails options. See Our Plans
