Dr. Kimberley Meitzen

Kimberly Meitzen is an Associate Professor in the Geography Department at Texas State University. Dr. Meitzen teaches courses on river processes, river basin management, water resources, and river and society related problem solving. Her research focuses on hydraulic flood modeling, environmental flows, river channel and floodplain habitat suitability modeling, and riparian ecosystems. Kimberly is currently the TXST representative for the Stakeholder Committee of the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan and serves as the advisor for the Environmental Conservation Organization student group on campus.

Kimberly has lived in San Marcos since 2013. She grew up in El Paso Texas, completed her B.S. at UT Austin, and received her M.S. and Ph.D. from University of South Carolina, Columbia in 2011. After receiving her doctorate, she was Post-doc Fellow of Environmental Flows in a joint position with Duke University and The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina where she worked with the North Carolina State Scientific Environmental Flows Advisory Board on determining environmental water allocations.

As a local of San Marcos, Kimberly is actively involved with the community. She has served as a co-chair of the Mermaid Society SMTX River Guardianship Symposium planning team, has been a board member for the San Marcos Runners Club and is on the board her local HOA. When not working or volunteering, Kimberly enjoys kayaking, snorkeling, running, hiking, gardening, and cooking. Kimberly and her, husband, Walt’s home is solar powered, and they capture nearly 3,000 gallons of rainwater for use on their vegetable and butterfly gardens.
